Glossary entry

Allocation

The process of assigning shared technology costs to services, teams, products, or business units.

Why it matters

Allocation matters because AI often begins as a shared platform cost, and weak allocation models can make local use cases appear cheaper or more expensive than they really are.

The goal is not accounting perfection. It is a sufficiently accurate picture for better decisions. For the full cost context, see AI TCO Framework.
