Buyer fit
Most relevant for estates with mainframe, IBM i or Java modernisation work. Bobalytics, announced on 9 July 2026, reports productivity, quality, performance and cost, and supports allocation and oversight of consumption. At general availability in April 2026, The Register reported Pro at $20 a month with 40 Bobcoins and Ultra at $200 a month with 500. How Bobcoins map to model usage is not published, so compare the billing model with other coding tools on a real workload.
Market outlook
Part of IBM. New to market; the cost analytics are a differentiator on paper and need testing on real usage.
What to check
- Subagents run exploratory steps in a separate context, which IBM says limits their cost.
- Plans are sold in Bobcoins, a usage credit; IBM does not publish how Bobcoins convert to model usage.
- Ask for Bobalytics data exports so coding-agent cost can join wider FinOps reporting.
